When I was a middle-aged Mom with two teenaged children, I was admitted to the hospital with double-pneumonia… I was terrified! On my first night in the hospital, I couldn’t fall asleep because I was coughing so much. The night shift nurse came in to check on me and found me crying. She asked if I was in pain, and I said “no”. I told her I was afraid of dying and leaving my children behind. She took the time to sit down next to my bed, hold my hand, and comfort me until I was able to fall asleep. I will never forget her and how kind she was. She got me through one of the absolute worst nights of my life!

My wife has been going thru small cell cancer treatment for nearly 2 years. Her treatments have been delayed and or denied by our insurance. The second treatment her oncologist said she could only have proton radiation and the insurance denied it multiple times delaying her treatment for nearly 4 months. In the time of this delay her cancer spread to her brain…I truly believe the delay in treatments contributed to the cancer spreading. We have to fight for every treatment with delays and denials. I have worked for nearly 50 years and I am mad as hell about how the government allows this to happen.

After a near fatal car crash on January 19, 2024, I was only in rehab for 2 weeks when Humana [ my insurance company ] said they would stop paying and that I would have to go home. I appealed and got one more week. I couldn’t even walk yet. Fortunately, the social worker in rehab switched me to Medicare, which covered me until I was finally able to go home on April 27th.

Hospital access is critical to healthcare. What are we supposed to do if you suffer a stroke or heart attack in the middle of the night or an accident that requires medical expertise and care? Are you supposed to die? Is that what they are advocating? I want the families of those politicians to have the same treatment as the common man,not as privileged, powerful people. Emergency care is to be provided to all, equally! Either everyone gets it or nobody gets it.

As we get older, Medicare and other insurance is more important that ever. Tell Congress to support those of us who worked and contributed to the “system” most of our lives. If something needs to be cut, take it from their own ranks since they all eventually end up as millionaires and can afford to pay their own way. Quit threatening the senior who helped build this country!!

There are two many to list. A drunk driver hit me head on in 2002. I have had twenty five major surgeries; plate on my left femore, screws in my left knee holding it together, screws in my left tibia, right ankle damaged., veins in both legs damaged, right elbow replacement, traumatic spinal tumar removal, right knee replacement, numerous years in hospitals & skilled nursing homes. He got thirty days in jail! God saved me from the accident, surgeons put me back together, and the nurses kept me alive.

Without Medicare I can’t pay for meds and medical care. I still have to work in order to pay for my supplement insurance. How are American people supposed to live without Medicare. This is a promised part of our retirement. This can’t happen. At my age I should be retired. I don’t know how much longer I can do this. I have no quality of life I’m so tired.

Thank you all for all the [work]  you do to make us, the patients feel that someone cares when we are at our worse.
