WASHINGTON — The Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care will now be known as the Coalition to Strengthen America’s Healthcare. For the past 24 years, the Coalition has fought to protect access to high-quality care for all Americans. The new name reflects its renewed focus to protect and strengthen patients’ access to 24/7 care across the country.
“The best way to support patients and communities throughout America is to support and strengthen America’s hospitals and health systems,” said Nancy Howell Agee, Chair of the Coalition to Strengthen America’s Healthcare. “That’s why we are renewing our focus and redoubling our efforts to protect and strengthen patients’ access to high-quality, around-the-clock care.”
Hospitals are the heart of our country’s healthcare system, providing essential care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Hospitals and health systems care for everyone, providing complex, coordinated care for every patient who comes through their doors. In addition to providing vital patient care, hospitals support the entire healthcare system by training new generations of health providers and pioneering innovations in the medical field.
Yet, the current healthcare landscape puts hospitals and their patients at risk. The costs of providing care have skyrocketed while hospital reimbursement rates remain stagnant. Often, corporate insurance companies deny claims and delay care. The status quo is not sustainable. A majority of the country’s hospitals are operating at a loss. Nearly 150 rural hospitals have cut services or closed their doors and hundreds of more hospitals across America are at risk.
Hospitals need to maintain high-quality care for patients and their communities. That’s why the Coalition is increasing its efforts to support access to care at our nation’s hospitals and fight for a strong future for patients.
