Stories from the State

Advocates from across the country submit their patient stories about 24/7 care, large corporate insurers, and rural healthcare access in order to highlight the importance of access to care.
I live just outside a small town of about 3,500 people. I fell off my haystack onto the concrete floor of my garage. We have a regional hospital in town where I was taken so that I could get a CT scan and X-rays. I had to go to a bigger hospital for the resulting brain bleed. Every single doctors, neurosurgeon and nurse were the best in the business in caring for me through the two surgeries I had. I am back to my old normal due to their help.

Our area of SD is part of the lowest income areas in the state. With the increase in health insurance and the cut back on other sources of monetary funds to be able to seek assistance affecting hospitals and clinics. You might say, they can go to another facility but that takes transportation which is limited with the changing costs of life.
