Stories from the State

Advocates from across the country submit their patient stories about 24/7 care, large corporate insurers, and rural healthcare access in order to highlight the importance of access to care.
I am permanently disabled, with a pre-existing condition. Medicaid has been a big part of my life. If it is taken it away, I will, and many other people like me will be negatively affected. I’m petrified that I won’t be able to get my pills. I’m petrified that I won’t be able to see my doctors. Medicaid allows me to afford my medical bills. I’m not alone, there are many of us out there, and we are scared.

We recently had a medical emergency, and my partner had to be taken to the emergency room. It took 37 minutes for them to get here due to cuts to local services, and many local hospitals have cut their emergency services, so we had to use another hospital than the one we would rather have gone to.
