At last week’s Congressional Baseball Game, the Coalition to Strengthen America’s Healthcare premiered a new video highlighting the more than 72 million Americans who rely on Medicaid, including 30 million children, seven million seniors, 1.6 million veterans, and over one million newborns.

Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle saw this video as they are debating devastating Medicaid cuts that could threaten access to care for all Americans. Medicaid coverage is critical to ensuring patients have access to care by keeping hospitals funded, functioning, and open. These cuts are being considered by some in Congress despite being unpopular – a wide majority of Americans support protecting Medicaid.

The Congressional Baseball Game video is part of ongoing efforts by the Coalition and its advocates to protect Medicaid and access to care for all Americans. Since February 2025, advocates have sent more than 400,000 letters urging Congress to protect Medicaid, and have shared more than 1,900 stories on their personal experiences with Medicaid to aid in the Coalition’s advocacy efforts. The Coalition has also launched a national TV ad campaign called #FacesofMedicaid, highlighting the stories of some of those most impacted by potential funding cuts, including seniors and children. Additionally, the Coalition has released fact sheets and other resources demonstrating the real-life impact that Medicaid cuts would have to help the media, the public, and policymakers become more knowledgeable on this important issue.

Below are just a few stories from Coalition advocates sharing why access to Medicaid is essential.

Kimberly O. from Arizona shared: “My son is on Medicaid here in Arizona. He is 33 years old and is on the spectrum. He has medical benefits through the state and gets services through the Department of Developmental Disabilities. Because of these benefits, he has medical care, can get his medications, and has a job through a state program. He can live a fuller life and be an active part of society because of these supports.”

Joyce W. from New York shared: “If I didn’t have Medicaid, I would no doubt be in a wheelchair or a nursing home. Having Medicaid allows me to see specialists to treat my condition, get the necessary medications to treat and keep my disability at a minimum…Without Medicaid, I would be worse off both physically and financially.”

Tiffany S. from Kansas shared: “I have been a healthcare professional for 25 years. Medicaid is important to me because it saves children’s lives. Working for a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Pediatric Inpatient Hospital Unit, I’ve seen children get sick from not having access to asthma medication. These children have been flown into the hospital for literally not breathing. With Medicaid at discharge from the hospital, they can get their medication. I’ve seen even worse cases of children admitted to the hospital for rationing insulin. Insulin is essential for diabetic pediatric patients to live. Kids have been unconscious, seizing, having kidney failure and risking death from lack of access to insulin. Medicaid can save these kids!”
