Stories from the State

Advocates from across the country submit their patient stories about 24/7 care, large corporate insurers, and rural healthcare access in order to highlight the importance of access to care.
My brother did not know that he had four blood clots one in each lung one in each leg. He went he made it to the hospital and they saved his life. He was away from home more than 6 months and he had to start dialysis during that time. He is still on dialysis today. The time spent in the hospital was crucial for him, if he had not had 24/7 care he would not have made it.

I had great care at several different smaller hospitals in my area. If not for these, I’d have to drive 50 to over 100 miles for the care at Mayo. When I had a serious heart condition, I was stabilized locally for air transport to Mayo in Eau Claire, WI. If not for the local hospital, I may not have survived the ambulance ride to EC.
