Stories from the State
Advocates from across the country submit their patient stories about 24/7 care, large corporate insurers, and rural healthcare access in order to highlight the importance of access to care.
Rural hospitals save lives. As a nursing faculty member at a rural university, I’ve seen this firsthand. We rely on rural hospitals as teaching sites for nursing students in our state. Their closure would make it impossible to educate new nurses for the workforce, in the face of an existing and critical shortage of RNs. We must save rural hospitals in turn saving nursing programs and saving patients.

I was admitted to the Emergency Room several years ago after falling from a ladder. I don’t know what I would have done without the kind, quick, professional care I received for my fracture dislocation of my right ankle. If this treatment weren’t possible, I would not have recuperated and would have been wheelchair bound the rest of my life.
