Stories from the State

Advocates from across the country submit their patient stories about 24/7 care, large corporate insurers, and rural healthcare access in order to highlight the importance of access to care.
I had a few surgeries. Last being major back surgery when I was 70. I’d be in a wheelchair if I hadn’t. I’m 77 and now walk well!! Without Medicare I would be an invalid.

We live on a huge island close to Ketchikan, AK. Previous to us having a large clinic in nearby Klawock, we had to go to Ketchikan for our care, and had to fly there, since we are not connected by road. Once we got a bigger clinic in Klawock, our care did improve, since we can drive or catch rides to that clinic.
