Stories from the State

Advocates from across the country submit their patient stories about 24/7 care, large corporate insurers, and rural healthcare access in order to highlight the importance of access to care.
I am an MD and wasted so many hours begging insurance companies for needed and vital medications or equipment for very sick and often disabled patients. I had to go through a litany of people, many not even health care providers, and when getting to physicians they were also clueless about my specialty or medical literature. Their main goal was to refuse me which meant refusing my patients vital care, medications, and equipment.

I’m disabled at 17, and I would absolutely prefer to live to see 50. Without healthcare, I won’t — I would be unable to afford my medications.
