Stories from the State

Advocates from across the country submit their patient stories about 24/7 care, large corporate insurers, and rural healthcare access in order to highlight the importance of access to care.
I worked as a master’s prepared registered dietiian for over 40 years. The last 20 years exclusively with kidney failure patients. I taught them their diet and related medications, and monitored & reviewed their blood levels with them weekly or more frequently as needed. Some patients living without a rural hospital nearby had to travel 1 to 2 hours or more to get to treatment, complete a 3- 4 hour dialysus treatment & ride back home again. This amounts to 6 to 10 hours every other day (3 times a week). Besides the extensive drive time, many people do not feel well after treatment. This Is just one reason why rural hospitals with dialysis facilities need to stay open.

I have worked in hospitals and healthcare all my life. Without quality healthcare in my senior years, I would not be here. I had private health insurance from a job. As a senior, we have paid into Medicare to cover us in our old age. Stop cuts to Medicare and take care of U.S. seniors.
